Do we sometimes overthink our communications?
As the owner of my own business, I know that I can be guilty of it but my excuse is that I love the craft of literacy and writing about cycling related things. Ride reports, reviews, blogs are all areas that pique my interest and get under my skin!
My portfolio of published articles is on the increase, most recently for 'Cyclist' magazine - something I am immensely prooud of!
The reason for this blog, however, isn't to extol the value of the written, printed or spoken word but to highlight how the same messages can be achieved through visual aids alone.
So, if you have time, there are two steps in this little exercise.
Firstly, have a read of my report from the Tour de Yorkshire sportive in May 2019 -https://www.sportive.com/cycling-reports/538029/tour-de-yorkshire-ride-if-geoffrey-boycott-did-sportives
Secondly, have a look at the picture below.
Both of the approaches have merits but one of them has 3000 words and the other has about 30. It's powerful, isn't it - the absolute details of the ride may be missing but the essence is clearly there.
So, have you ever stopped to consider whether you sometimes overthink your communications when 'good enough' would suffice?
